Room makeovers or refreshes are usually always planned a certain way, but never seem to go according to its original plan 🙂
I have wanted to give my 7-year-old daughter, Brie, a makeover for some time now given her good report card and positive behavior. She is one special girl, who is highly creative, very smart, and a tendency to get anxious. Therefore, I wanted to approach her room redo in a safe way without her getting upset about anything being moved or taken out of her room.
I originally planned this room refresh as a Suprise. Yet, Covid and snow have caused an inconsistent school schedule, and it was making it harder for this to be a surprise.
I decided it was best that I told Brie that I had planned a room update for her and if I can have access to her room for a few hours while her and her sister played together. Long story short, I spent several hours in her room organizing every single thing.
She loves to hold on to “things” for memorabilia items, which is sweet, but after they become dust collectors, it is time to go.
She enjoys being surrounded by a ton of things, which I feel has contributed to her and my anxiety. I felt it was time to give her a space where everything had a place and then it was up to her to keep it that way. She would hopefully feel less overwhelmed about cleaning her room and it would also look super cute.
It was a process! I wanted to get further with the “design” process, but the organizational makeover had to take charge. The room now looks organized and flows well and it has COST NOTHING TO REDO. I am going to add more art and pillows but slowly over time, so I do not overwhelm her.

Here is Brie on her 5th Birthday when her bed was in the same spot that I moved it now, until she became afraid of her closet.
Here is Brie and Charlotte in Brie’s room when they were so tiny 🙂 You can see by the mini rollercoaster that her room is very long and large.
Here are some of the BEFORE pictures. Lighting is not the best. The bed was situated in the room in an akward corner to avoid her seeing her closet.
I created a MOOD BOARD below to get an idea of how I wanted to decorate the room.
And then I began to clean….
My husband recently hung the DIY closet rack in the back corner of her room to avoid her being afraid to go into her closet. She really likes it!
I moved her bed to its original spot, and she is no longer afraid to look at her closet door. It just belongs here and brings the space centered and a focal point.

She like it! I have seen a few things flow back into her room from the garbage, but it still looks the same for the most part 🙂
She has been sleeping better since moving her bed and even made her bed before school today! Win Win!
